The Challenge – reimagining regional and remote health care

Congratulations to Lions Outback Vision, the winner of The Challenge

A standout innovator, Lions Outback Vision introduced Australia’s first mobile retinal camera with fully integrated artificial intelligence.

The solution uses artificial intelligence to screen for eye diseases such as diabetic retinopathy and cataracts, significantly improving early detection for people in remote areas who would otherwise be required to travel to urban areas.

Thank you to all the finalists for demonstrating and showcasing their projects and further advancing healthcare through innovation across the Pilbara region.

The Challenge is enabled by the State Government’s Future Health Research and Innovation Fund and contributions from corporate partners BHP and Rio Tinto.

Take a look back at the challenge program and the work of our innovative finalists.

Better health care starts with an idea. But it doesn’t stop there.

We challenged you to reimagine what it means to deliver regional and remote health care, and 10 finalists have progressed to the proof-of-concept stage.

Follow their stories as they work to plan, develop and implement their solutions in the Pilbara.

The Government of Western Australia issued a global challenge for a world-leading medical research and innovation solution to resolve a pressing problem of health service delivery in the Pilbara region of Western Australia.

The best solution will take home the $5 million prize supported by our partners, the Future Health Research and Innovation Fund, Rio Tinto and BHP.
